Dagny Johnson Key Largo State Park
Dagny Johnson Key Largo State Park was named for a historical environmental activist who strived to preserve natural habitats for endangered animals.
The park is home to many endangered species such as the Key Largo Woodrat and Key Largo Cotton Mouse as well as many other animal and plant species.
All of the species are protected and the land is well preserved right here in the beautiful Florida Keys.
Anyone who enjoys the beauty of nature will enjoy a day strolling the nature trails or bicycling on one of the park’s paved trails to see some rare plant and animal life.
The park contains one of the largest tracts of West Indian tropical hardwood hammocks in the United States, and is famous for its beautiful and intriguing backcountry trails. Be sure to apply for a permit at the Ranger’s station.
Not to be missed is the butterfly garden that contains not only unique and beautiful plant species, but an abundance of fluttery butterflies.
